DRY Needling

Waterloo Sports Medicine Centre has physiotherapists who are trained in dry needling or intramuscular acupuncture. Dry needling can be beneficial in both diagnosis and treatment of muskuloskeletal injuries.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is used to treat chronically tight muscles or trigger points. Triggers points are sensitive or tender areas in the muscles that cause generalized muskuloskeletal pain when overstimulated. Dry needling is a treatment option for these chronic myofascial disorders. The treatment requires the insertion of an acupuncture needle into the muscle tissue to try to illicit a therapeutic response.
